Corey’s Salvation Story

The gospel message of salvation by grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ has saved my soul and completely changed my life. Having no religious background in my upbringing, I experienced a radical conversion to Christianity in my early 20’s. I immediately joined a Bible believing local church, was baptized, and made discipleship in the faith a priority. Two years later, with a hunger to dive deeper, I enrolled as a student at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies in 2006.

Corey’s Ministry Story

While a student at Moody, I developed a heart for missions, and later founded a non-profit organization named “Phokos” (On Facebook @globalphokos). I’m so grateful to God for my salvation, and I want to see others saved. I want to see churches strengthened. I want to see the tides of our time shift. Romans 1:16 says, “The GOSPEL is the POWER of God…” I believe it STILL is. John Wesley said, “Give me 100 preachers who fear nothing but sin, and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.”

How Corey’s Story Connects with Podcast Seminary

As important as evangelism is to me, I cannot overstate the great emphasis the New Testament places on DISCIPLESHIP. Equally important to the New Testament call of evangelism, is the call to DISCIPLE. For this reason, I applaud Dr. Freddy Cardoza and his work with Podcast Seminary. True to their mission, “Podcast Seminary wants to help you grow spiritually, and will give you a step-by-step spiritual growth strategy for personal growth.”
Podcast Seminary likens their step-by-step spiritual growth strategy to climbing an “ivory tower.” This is a great comparison, and shows why Podcast Seminary will prove to be a great resource for Christians of every level of spiritual maturity. There’s one kind of beauty at the entrance, but there’s so much more to see! Even if you’ve advanced to a certain height, you may find something that you needed to rediscover.
Just recently, my eyes welled up with tears as I watched a Podcast Seminary Vlog. Life can be challenging, and even Christians face hardships and trials, but I was so blessed to be reminded of “God’s Omniscience” (Part 5 of the “Enjoy the Ride” series).
God used Dr. Freddy Cardoza to remind me that “God is ALL-KNOWING” and that “God’s knowledge allows Him to calculate the events of our lives in perfect timing.” I was reminded afresh that “God knows everything,” and because He is good, I can trust Him through anything. A big heart, a deep mind, and a sincere desire to see people grow in their faith is what’s behind this great work. Tune in, and tell others!

What is a Podcast?

Valuable audio content you subscribe to get automatically delivered to your device(s).

According to International Podcast Day, “A “podcast” is sort of difficult to explain because there really isn’t anything else like it — but rather, many things that are kind of like it.”
They continue: “A good starting point, is to think of a podcast as “Internet Radio On-Demand.” It’s similar in that you can usually listen to it on your computer — but it’s more than that. [However, and not to confuse the issue, podcasting isn’t confined to just audio but can be video as well]. With the amount of content that podcasting provides, regular Broadcast Radio, or “Terrestrial Radio” — as they call it — simply can never compete. The AM and FM radio band only has so many channels. Consequently, radio stations “Broadcast” their content — meaning that they attempt to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible. Because, afterall, this is what advertisers are looking for. But podcasting, by contrast, is not necessarily hamstrung to advertising revenue like its broadcasting cousin. With its specific and specialized content, it is able to “narrowcast” to only those who choose to listen. So while a particular podcast’s audience may be considerably smaller than the audience of a broadcast, one could argue that the podcast’s audience is a much more targeted and interested in the content being delivered. So, in a way, Satellite Radio, with its ability to provide more channels than Broadcast Radio, takes a step towards podcasting — but still does not come close.”
Podcasts are “On Demand” and can be listened to on your schedule — not when a Radio Station decides to air it. So, it’s kind of like TiVo.”

Summary
Carnegie Calian served for years at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (Reformed Tradition seminary), which is an organization that was instituted back in 1794 (wow!).
The Spirit-Driven Leader: Seven Keys to Succeeding Under Pressure
Calian argues that wise people learn from not only from other people’s mistakes but also from their advice. Carnegie Samuel Calian draws upon over twenty-five years of successful leadership and management to give his best advice for leaders and followers in an organization to successfully deal with the conflicts that arise in an organization.
While his experience is largely based on his experience leading a seminary, his advice is to all organizations through a pastoral approach. The book expounds seven key values for leaders to cultivate in their organization. The first four values—creativity, competence, commitment, character—are to establish a leadership that inspires hope. The last three values—collegiality, compassion, and courage are ways that organizations can build community.
Calian gives seven key areas of leadership to master as a Christian leader, along with tips on how to do them:
1. Creativity
-See Solutions When Others See Barriers
-Cultivate Discernment in Evaluating Ideas
2.Competence
-Overcoming Self-Doubt: You’re Much Better Than You Think You Are
-Recognize and Practice Your Natural Gifts
3. Commitment
-Consider Leadership and ‘Followship’ as Spiritual Callings
-Dedicate Yourself to Your Primary Life Mission
-Nurture Your Passion
4. Character
-Trust Must Be Earned
-Sensitivity to Human Needs
-Credibility: Confidence With Humility
5. Collegiality
-Affirm Others’ Strengths
-Building Consensus
6. Compassion
-Apply the Golden Rule (regard individuals as persons and not means)
-Practice Dignity Without Dependence
7. Courage
-Step Up and Be Accountable
-Remember that Leadership Can Be Lonely
-Overcome Obstacles and Disappointment
These seven principles are essentials in Christian leadership and are touchstones for high performance people everywhere.

Accordance Bible Software (White Paper)

Accordance Bible Software on Soapbox.Network

Video Introduction

White Paper

Accordance Bible Software

Description
Accordance is a Bible software program that emphasizes the ability to search the biblical (and extra-biblical) texts. Accordance features an interface that allows users to view multiple translations/texts side by side. Users can also build an “e-library” of Accordance-compatible reference works that can be read directly on Accordance, side by side with biblical texts. Some of these reference works include interactive Bible atlases, timelines, Greek and Hebrew lexicons, and commentaries. One signature feature of Accordance is the Greek and Hebrew “construct.” The construct window allows users to search complex grammatical constructions, using graphs and charts.
Locating or Acquiring this Resource
Accordance can be purchased online at http://www.accordancebible.com. Currently, the most basic Accordance package can be purchased for $59. The basic package includes Accordance 11 along with a starter collection of various reference tools. Moreover, many Christian stores, including on-campus bookstores, also sell Accordance.
Using this Resource in Academic Teaching
There are various ways in which Accordance can be useful for teaching and enhancing effective student learning both in and outside the classroom:

  • Professors who teach intermediate or advanced Greek or Hebrew can illustrate real examples of complex grammatical concepts (e.g., Granville-Sharp) all in one convenient window.
  • Accordance is invaluable for exegesis of the biblical text. The kinds of searches that can be performed on Accordance are limited only to one’s own creativity. It can be as simple as searching the occurrences of a particular Hebrew word or activating a list of every optative verb in the New Testament. The searches can also be refined—narrowed or broadened—through the use of Boolean phrases. For example, one can broaden their search from every optative verb in the New Testament to every optative verb and every imperative.
  • For people who do not mind reading extensively on a computer screen, Accordance allows students and professors to purchase Accordance-compatible reference tools (e.g., commentaries), usually at significantly cheaper prices than their paper counterparts.
  • Accordance provides a convenient means for projecting the biblical text for a classroom lecture or seminar. Not only can professors project the biblical text using Accordance, they can also demonstrate on a projected screen how computerized searches of the biblical text can enhance exegesis and exposition.
